While there is a 1 in 10 chance of winning a prize in Bonolotto’s 6 tier prize breakdown, there is a big difference between winning the 1st and 6th tier. 1 in 10 people who buy a ticket will win the 6th tier, which requires players to match the reintegro number only. The 1st, jackpot, tier is one by one person in 13,983,816. To win the jackpot, match all 6 numbers correctly to the ones drawn on the night. It’s a long shot, but someone has to take the money home, or it is rolled over to increase the jackpot in the next draw when there are no winners. The 2nd tier is won by matching 5 balls plus the complementario number, and players have a 1 in 2,330,636 chance of winning it. Players have a 1 in 54,201 chance of winning the 3rd tier, which requires matching 5 balls. Matching 4 balls gives 1 in 1032 players a win in the 4th tier, and the 5th tier is won by 1 in 57 people who match three balls out of six.
What Happens if You Win?
If you win prizes below €600, you can collect your winnings at any official lottery retailer. Meanwhile, if your winnings go beyond €600, you must collect your prize at any Loteria Nacional branch in Spain. Take note that winnings over €2,500 are taxable—with 20% withheld as per a new law passed in 2013.
Of course, if you played BonoLoto using an online lottery site—which most likely means you are living in another country—then prize collection methods may vary. Some sites will immediately deposit winnings below a certain prize threshold to your account, for example. Also, take note that if you did play BonoLoto from another country, your local tax laws may also come into play.
Taxes
Lottery prizes are subject to taxation at source. There are two tax bands. Tax Band 1: Tax-free up to €2,500. Tax Band 2: Any portion of the prize exceeding €2,500 is subject to a tax rate of 20%. Check the tax laws in your country of residence for any further local taxation you may be subject to.
