The Ontario Lottery 49 is offered by the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Company (OLG). OLG is the result of a merger between the Ontario Casino Company (OCC) and the Ontario Lottery Company (OLC). Having a centralized organization to provide and control all activities throughout the region has its advantages. They have more than 25 years of industry experience together. Since April 2000, Ontario citizens have had the opportunity to seek fun and entertainment in OLG's products and services.
Ontario 49 was launched in 1997 and held its first draw in October of that year. Since April 2000, the game has been operated by the Ontario Lottery and Game Company (OLG). Since the release, the core concepts of the game have remained more or less unchanged.
For the Ontario draw, 7 balls were randomly drawn from the dome (six major figures and one bonus number). The first draw of Ontario 49 was on October 10, 1997, and the draw was held twice a week on Wednesdays and Saturdays. You can increase your Ontario 49 tickets by purchasing Encore.

Ontario 49 has a number range of 1 to 49. The player is required to select 6 numbers from this range or have the system provide you with a random number combination with the Quick Pick option. Doesn’t matter which path you chose as long as there are 6 numbers selected on your ticket slip. With the recent changes OLG made to Ontario 49 players can buy lottery tickets for up to 26 weeks in advance. If you consider the fact there are 2 draws per week, that’s 52 draws ahead. This way you won’t miss any of the upcoming draws and you don’t have to repeat the buying process all over again.
Another thing that comes with every ticket of Ontario 49 is the Encore. For only $1 you can win up to $1,000,000. The prizes start from $2 and go up until they reach the 7 digit ultimate prize. The bonus game consists of matching the digits of the draw in order. They can be matched from left to right, right to left or combinations of both. If you find it unclear the Quick Pick feature will spare you from any difficulty.
For an additional dollar, players can activate one more lottery playing opportunity known as Encore. The bonus game makes it possible to win additional prizes, the highest one being 1 million dollars. A 7-digit Encore number is printed on a regular Ontario 49 ticket. Players can win prizes by matching the number from left to right, from right to left or both ways.
Encore is only available for tickets purchased in Ontario because the 7-digit number has to be printed on the ticket during the purchase process.
The odds of winning a prize after activating Encore are 1 in 9.17, which is pretty impressive regardless of the lottery that Ontario 49 is being compared to.
How Does Ontario 49 Work?
Ontario 49 is based off the oft used 6/49 lottery format.
To play the game, you must choose 6 numbers from a selection of numbers from 1 to 49. In addition, a bonus number will be selected - used to identify some lower level winners.

If you are playing without the help of an online lottery site (for example, if you purchased directly from an Ontario lottery retailer), you can also choose to play Encore. Just pay another $1 to get into this bonus game and you have a chance to win up to $1,000,000 in prizes.
If you want to win multiple awards, you can also add a combination of game tickets. A combined play ticket works the same as a regular ticket, but with these combinations, you can play more numbers in a combination of five to nine digits. Therefore, if you activate this feature, it will increase your chances of winning. Prices start at $44.
