How to Play Finland Lotto, Info, Rules, Guides

Finland is known for organizing lotteries. Nearly 70% of the Finnish population regularly participates in Lotto Finland and as it has become part of Finnish culture. Thanks to digitalization in the world, anyone can take part in this fantastic lottery at any time. Want to learn more about this lottery? Get ready and keep reading this article.

How to play Finland Lotto

As we mentioned before, everyone around the world can play Lotto Finland. All you have to do is go through a small registration process on a credible lottery service. Once you have registered and made your first deposit, these services purchase tickets on your behalf, scan them and send them to your email address. With that said, let's take a look at Lotto Finland's format. The lottery is a 7 out of 40 game. More specifically, players must select 7 numbers from 1-40. A line at Lotto Finland costs only SEK 10, which makes this lottery very affordable.

If you want to win the minimum jackpot worth just over SEK 7.1 million you must match all 7 numbers. If there are no jackpot winners, a rollover happens next, which explains why Lotto Finland has reached incredibly large jackpots in recent years. Players who match 6 numbers win the second prize of SEK 510 million, while those who match 5 numbers receive SEK 20,000. Draws are held every Saturday. The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 15,380,000 which is quite impressive compared to other national lotteries the world over.

Finish Lotto Joker

An additional game called the Joker can be played alongside Finland’s Lotto. To play, choose seven numbers between 0 and 9. You can pick the same number more than once. On the night of a draw, a seven-digit Joker number is randomly generated, and you win prizes when you match the same digits in the same place.

For example, if the Joker number generated is 1291268, the number 1234567 would win because it matches three digits in the same place: 12***6*. The more numbers you match, the bigger the prize.

The cost of playing Joker is €2, and you can also play Double Joker for an extra €1. The Double Joker game is played in the same way, except that when the last digit of the Joker number is matched, any prizes you win are doubled.

Joker prizes are fixed amounts. The value of the jackpot is set by lottery providers Veikkaus before the draw and although it is usually set at €1 million (€2 million for Double Joker) it can change from draw to draw.

Drawing time

Lotto draws are held every Saturday at 22:10 EET (21:10 CET), with the Joker game taking place straight after.

Finish Lotto story

It is estimated that around 4,000 Finns a week select the numbers 3, 9, 15, 21, 27, 33 and 39. These numbers make up the third column of a Finnish Lotto ticket.

In February 2015, a record amount of €27.8 million was given away on Finnish Lotto. This special ‘double jackpot’ marked Valentine’s Day and was split between two groups.

Finland Lotto history

Lotteries began to be launched in Finland during the 1940s. Since then, the Finnish government has taken great steps to license all games while regulating how people plan and win prizes. Lotto Finland, also known as Veikkaus Lotto was launched in 1971. More and more people began to appreciate this lottery and has made it the most popular in Finland, despite there being more than 20 to choose from. One thing that is interesting about this lottery is that the format has never changed since it was launched. This is because the format is unique with contrasts compared to other national lotteries.

The very first lotto game in Finland, was brought to life around September 1940, and then was called "Constant". In 1975 Veikkaus company was founded by Finnish government. This Company is 100% state-owned and offices are placed in Veikkaus, Finland.

Finnish Veikkaus company's main game is Finland Veikkaus Lotto.

There are another star arrived, Pan-Scandinavian lotto called Viking Lotto.

Except of this two flagship games, Veikkaus company offer other games like Keno, VeikkausBingo, Jokeripelit, Instant games, Scratch cards and some others.

Let's back to Finnish Lotto. The entry price of playing Finland Lotto is keeped at low level, in order to attract wide spectrum of players. Althought, jackpots are not so impressive ones, compared to Euromillions, Powerball, MegaMillions or SuperEnalotto famous lotto games.

However, odds of winning are very attractive ones and more favourable for Finland lottery game.

In 1993 pan-Scandinavian Viking Lotto was launched. It was possible, after estabilishing lotto operators alliance from various Scandinavian countries like Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Iceland and Estonia.

Records says that 70% of Finnish population plays Lotto and other lucky-driven games. Why? Perhaps, they are aware that the majority of profits from such games will return to them, in this or another way. Well, 50% of the proceeds are going to the lottery winners and are paid in cash.

Profits go to support various activities in Finland like sport events, maintaining and renovation of sport facilities, cinemas, theaters, museums, local & national cultural events, youth and scouts activity, supporting scientists, etc.

The list is very long one and majority of Finns, benefit this or another way from Finnish lotto profits. That's a great way, for this small by count but big by spirit nation.
